Rare Still Life
I just finished a still life floral study. It's not something I do often, but I must admit I enjoyed painting it. Sometimes as an artist I feel the need to break away from the norm, just to keep the creative juices flowing. You can find this piece in my online gallery here -http://jmcenteno.com/store/

What style painter am I ?
One of the benefits of working primarily online is that I have the freedom to paint in any style that speaks to me. It's pretty evident from the body of work in my online gallery. As an artist I'm constantly inspired by my surroundings as well as other artists. Even then I still find myself asking the question all artists ask themselves, what style am I? For myself I must admit I don't know. I've been heavily influenced by prominent abstract and landscape artists. I grew up in the city of Toronto going to the AGO to see great pieces of modern art,but I also spent much of my youth on my father's farm in the woods and fields of the Dundalk highlands area of Ontario. Maybe all of it just adds to my diversity as an artist. I may never find an answer and so all I can really do is just keep painting. Here's a shot of a landscape piece I just finished. It' titled: Sunrise over the little pond. You can see it here at my gallery- http://jmcenteno.com/store/

Richter inspired
I recently watched a documentary on Gerhard Richter. Part of the doc films him actually painting several large pieces by pulling paint in layers with a large squeegee. It's a very interesting style and I was inspired to do a few pieces. This is one of my "attempts" titled- Sunset on Cherry St. The size is 24" x 48" and is done in acrylics. You can find it in my store here- http://www.ebay.ca/itm/48-ORIGINAL-MODERN-ABSTRACT-FINE-ART-GALLERY-PAINTING-INTERIOR-DESIGNS-Cen-Arte-/221216204775?pt=Art_Paintings&hash=item33818367e7

Urban Landscapes
I've just finished a new 46" x 46" abstract piece titled Bay & Wellington. It's an image of downtown Toronto rush hour crowds. The figures form a faceless crowd almost ghostly in appearance, an organic ebb and flow of people. You can find this piece for sale in my store.

Finding Time
I've been tied up lately with some large commissions but I'm hoping to have some new pieces up very soon. Finding time to keep up with work and family life is more difficult than I could have imagined. Being able to do what I love and have a roll in raising my son is a dream come true. If only there were 40hrs in a day!

Finding Time
It's been some time since I've made a post here. The lat few weeks have been really busy(can't complain). I feel that we're moving out of the downturn and hopefully a full recovery of the economy isn't too far away. It has been about 5 years now since I've worked this much at this time of year.I'm hoping to get a few more pieces up in the store and I'm trying to finish at least three pieces a week for my online gallery. Anyway it's back to the grind and I'll have to find more time to keep up the blog.

Busy Busy
The beginning of this year has been extremely busy and I've barely had a chance to make any blog posts. It doesn't help that my 2yr old son is quite a handful. With several large sales and an avalanche of gallery work I'm very optimistic that this can be a break out year for me.I'll be posting some pics of the pieces I've sold very soon.

Happy Holidays
It's been a pretty busy December in and out of the studio. I think as a full time artist it's difficult to put the brush down and walk away from the easel. This is the time of year for friends and family so I'll be relaxing this week and taking a much needed break. I'm pleased with the number of sales this month as well as the additional gallery work. I'm hoping it's a sign of better times in 2012. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

The size is 30" x 60" and is painted in acrylics. It's the first piece of a series that will be up in my online store. December has been a fairly good month and I 'm hoping it will continue through the new year.

Working Hard
The recent job numbers in Canada and the instability in the Euro zone is all I hear on the news. It's no wonder there's a loss in retail confidence. For myself I've noticed a slowdown in the art market coming out of summer, which is traditionally when things begin to pick up. All we can do as artists is keep working hard. I believe there's a light at the end of the tunnel, there always is. It's the journey towards it that's the hard part.

Etsy
I've been on and off of Etsy for a few years now.I'm not totally sold on the idea that it's a good forum for selling art online(at least when it comes to price points). I recently sold a $700 abstract a couple of weeks ago but the large sales are few and far between.
I will be posting some new pieces in my " Etsy Shop " and hopefully I can keep some momentum going.
